irregular heart rate — connected to breathing?

I’ve noticed I’ve had this for a while and even got it checked out, but my heartbeat accelerates when I breathe in and decelerates when i breathe out, noticeably. i am fairly healthy and exercise regularly and rigorously with no heart pain, disease, or family history of disease.

last time i went to my doctor, and the first time a doctor identified it, he said something to the extent of “cardiac arrhythmia,” or something that sounded close to it, but then told me that it’s “a sign of good health,” which puzzles me.

side note: I’ve been practicing martial arts for more than half my life, so I consider myself in pretty good shape. I have good control over my breath when I’m tired, but if that is somehow connected to my heart issue, and if what I’m thinking is true, then I’ve essentially learned to partially control my heart rate… it sounds incredible to me,
but I can feel the evidence.

It’s called Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia, or RSA. It is TOTALLY 100% normal and nothing to be concerned about.

Here is some info about it:
